Tulip Festival

Yesterday Ed's mom and I took a break from the routine and drove to Mt. Vernon, WA to see the tulips in bloom. We took the roundabout way through Pt. Townsend, stopping at Ft. Worden State Park to look around, and then taking the ferry to Widbey Island, driving north through Deception Pass and then on to Mt. Vernon. What a beautiful day to take a ride. The fields are in bloom and they were absolutely beautiful. The colors from a distance looked like a painting. And close up the flowers were beautiful. What a fantastic sight. There is so much to do at the tulip festival and we only got to do a small part of it before we had to turn around and come home. Next year we've decided to go up one day, spend the night so we have an additional day to take it all in.

I ordered bulbs for next fall. I bought some potted tulips for now. And I even brought home a bunch of cut tulips to decorate my table.

Happy Easter!

J spent the night at Grandma's last night and so he was visited by the Easter Bunny twice. Once at her house, and again when he got home. Grandma took him to church with her, so the Bunny had ample time to hide the eggs outside at our home. When J got home, he spied an egg near the sidewalk, rushed in and grabbed his basket and began the search. There was such a big smile on his face! The bunny even left a basket of gifts inside the house - a game and some new crayons and color books, and a package of Peeps. The basket with the gifts is the same basket that I put Jared in as a newborn and took pictures of him, six years ago. And that little yellow chicken was tucked in the basket with him. It's hard to believe that he actually used to fit INSIDE that basket.

Today is quite a different day from the cold, rainy day yesterday. It rained this morning, but by 10:30am, it had cleared off and was turning out to be a really nice day. We fixed the traditional spiral cut ham, potatos, beans, and just for Grandma, I tried my hand at making hot cross buns. Mmmm... not exactly on my diet, but boy were they good.

Then we all headed outside to continue working in the yard. Ed planted the peach tree that I bought last week, and I pulled weeds in the flower beds. J played with his friends outside. As the day winds down, I'm grateful that today turned out to be such a wonderful day.

What we did the day before Easter...

Grandma came over today to color easter eggs with J. She said it had been years since she did eggs, so I'm not sure who had more fun, J or Grandma. Either way, the eggs turned out some pretty shades of pastel. After egg coloring we topped off the cold, wet, dreary day with a bowl of homemade chili and rhubarb cherry pie that Ed made. (Have I told everyone enough times that I married the man for his pie crust?). Followed by several round of Uno, in which J kicked our butts. The rest of us weren't even close and we didn't even let him win.

First T-ball Game

Today began the official T-ball season with a very wet, cold and rainy game against the Mariners. Many of the kids on this years Dodger's team played on J's Marlin's team last year. There were lots of familiar faces just a little bit older. As we were waiting to have team photos taken (yep, that was in the rain, too), I noticed all the new first year t-ball teams and how young the kids looked compared to J's second year team. The kids are only a year older, but they look so "seasoned" compared to the rookies. It's amazing what difference a year makes at this age.

Sk8r

For J's birthday, we gave him a pair of Rollerblades. After work today, we took him out to practice for the first time. He started out with a couple of falls, a little whining and some unsteady moves in the beginning. Then he started to catch on. By the end, he was starting to balance and skate by himself. He even said it was fun!

Helping to blow up balloons before the party...

The cake: Jared picked out this Nemo cake at Safeway and then I had to find party favors to match the theme. In comes Grandma Donna's suggestion that we go to Toys are Us. And there they were, all the Nemo party favors. Thanks Grandma D!

04/05/06

Just had to mention that today is 04/05/06! And at 1:02 and 03 seconds today it was 01:02:03 04/05/06. At that time today, I was cleaning the kitchen in preparation for Jared's birthday tomorrow. We are having a few of his friends over for cake and a couple of games. He's been really looking forward to it, so I'll be sure to post the pictures of all the fun tomorrow.

So what were you doing at 01:02:03 04/05/06?
